Master in Health Psychology

Course Presentation

The Master in Health Psychology offers specialised supplemental training in Health Psychology, promoting the acquisition of specific knowledge, developing and improving the skills related to the psychological research and intervention within the health context.

 

Specifically, the goals of this Master are: to promote the deepening of knowledge related to the psychological study of individuals and groups, aiming health promotion, protection and prevention, treatment and rehabilitation; to develop specific skills of psychological intervention in the context of health, namely the participation in programmes of health education and acknowledgement of psychological advising and psychotherapy within the context of healthcare; to promote the development of a professional profile that eases the integration in multidisciplinary health teams

 

Key Learning Outcomes

The ability to fully understand: 

  • The main theories and models in Health Psychology; 
  • The main methods in Health Psychology; 
  • The relations between the knowledge in Psychology with specific knowledge acquired in Health Psychology; 
  • The relations between the knowledge acquired in areas that are related to Psychology with knowledge acquired in Health Psychology.

 

To be able to critically use: 

  • The knowledge acquired in the domain of the main theories and models in Health Psychology and to use it in the resolution of problems; 
  • The knowledge acquired in the domain of the main methods in Health Psychology and to use it in the resolution of problems; 
  • The knowledge acquired in Psychology and to use it in the resolution of problems; 
  • The knowledge acquired in areas that are related to Psychology and to use it in the resolution of problems.

 

To be able to think over and to solve ethical and social problems that derive from Health Psychology in specific contexts; 

To be able to communicate, in a clear way, both to specialists and non-specialists, the main theoretical and methodological constructs as well as the conclusions of a research work; 

To be able to develop, through out life, research work in Health Psychology that allows learning with a high level of autonomy.
